An introductory course on the principals of pigments and extraction techniques
This course is aimed at introducing you to the world of pigments and their extraction techniques.
Students will learn about different types of pigments and their sources, effects of environmental condition on the hue and saturation of pigments and finally making their own end-product.
We will explore the iron oxide and copper salts family of minerals along with the organic resources for a range of warm to cold colors.
We will travel to different parts of the world virtually in order to explore ancient recipes for the extraction and purification of pigments, then we will experiment with some of those methods to extract our own version of pigments. As a bonus, we will explore traditional dye and ink producing recipes and make some inks.
At the end of the course, you will not just learn some new techniques but a tendency toward having a more eco-friendly lifestyle will be developed inside you!
No prior knowledge of science nor cooking is required. The only pre-requisite for this course is to be motivated to learn new things.
Suitable for ages 14 and up.
